From July to December False Bay
comes alive with the annual visit of the Southern Right
whales. At up to 18 metres in length and weighing nearly 50
tonnes, these magnificent, gentle giants of the sea were
nearly hunted to extinction. Fortunately worldwide legislation
now protects them and the numbers are rising annually.
They come into the bay to calve,
mate or simply have a break from the icy Antarctic conditions.
They love our warm sheltered conditions and can often be seen
leaping out of the water, tail lobbing, spy-hopping, mating or
simply lazing around. You need not be afraid as we keep a safe
distance!
For the best “ECO” experience in
Cape Town we include whale viewing on both our Seal Island &
Cape Point cruises at no extra charge, so you get double the
value!
Sightings of Brydes whales,
Humpback whales, Orcas and Dolphins are also common.
